Take 11 with Dana featuring Darine Davis
I'm Dana of Nia Promotions and I excited about another installment of Take 11 where I  satisfy my literary curiosity by asking several authors the same 11 personal, and quirky, questions. Today’s feature is Darine Davis.

Dana (D): Please introduce yourself.

Darine Davis (DD): My name is Darine Davis author of Bayou Drama, When A Good Man Goes Bad, and The Soldier.

What keeps you motivated to write?

I believe society makes me write. I’m a people reader and I look at the things they say and on some occasions what I do at times and I just have to write about it. It’s my stress release at times.

Who is your biggest fan?

I believe my family is my biggest fan. Especially my sister she is the only person I know that stopped talking to me for a week because I killed off one of my characters.

If I had to do it (i.e., write your book, your writing career, etc.) all over again, I would…

I would have started my career a lot sooner than I did. I never had confidence in my writing I did not think I was good enough, so I would always box my stories up or leave them in a drawer hidden from the world.

What is one of your quirky isms?

I am stuck on saying “cool beans” and made fun of because of my country style analogies.

How often do you read? And who is your favorite author?

I have not been able to read like I used to. My job has become my new best friend LOL! But when I did read on a constant basis, anything from Zane or Carl Weber I was hooked.

What is your greatest challenge as an author?

Having confidence in my writing and writing with conviction. I had a hard time because I would take criticism to heart but had to lose the “feelings thing” and take the criticism with the territory.

What is your favorite food?

Oh boy! Spicy Pork Skins, yogurt w/Grape Nuts, and Coke Zero.

What surprises readers most about your work?

The message behind each story. When they start out reading my work it gets the reader into the character’s life. When they finish the book, I hope it left an impression on them and allows the reader to look at their own situation or the situation of someone they may know

Do you write with or without music?

With music. It allows me to relax and gets my creative juices going

What mark would you like to leave on the publishing industry?

That I was different, of course, and that my books left a message that touched someone

What final impression do you want your work to leave with readers?

That my works made a difference. I want my works to touch someone to the point where if they saw me on the streets they would say "you were talking to me in this novel or short story".
