If I had to do it (i.e., write your book, your writing career, etc.) all over again, I would…

I would have not waited until my 40’s to start writing independently. Since childhood, I always said I wanted to be a writer.

What is one of your quirky isms?

Perfectionism

How often do you read? And who is your favorite author?

With being so busy writing, I can’t read as much as I’d like. Toni Morrison is my favorite writer. I like the style in which she introduces her characters.

What is your greatest challenge as an author?

Not enough hours in a day.

What is your favorite food?

Thai cuisine

What surprises readers most about your work?

That I write suspense/thrillers. With my concentration in developmental psychology and most of my work in the early childhood field, people who know me, and have not read my books, assume I write novels for children. Others look at me and make the assumption my genre is romance.

Do you write with or without music?

Both. I don’t have a preference.

What mark would you like to leave on the publishing industry?

That African Americans can write psychological suspense/thrillers and we are quite capable of attracting more than just other African Americans in book sales.

What final impression do you want your work to leave with readers?

I hope after reading my book, the reader comes away with something that makes them a better person or at least plant the seeds to motivate positive change.
